LIRR A Day Full of Inspiration

Today I returned to LIRR after a longer than usual winter break due to the snow and cold. It was great to be back. People in this location are always full of inspirations.  Here's some that I captured on video.

What inspires Kayra and Erica "not have to go to a job I hate every morning," and "Life struggles."

What Inspires Karim? "Seeing beauty in the small things we take for granted."

What Inspires Anita? Not to miss her train. To be a comedian, laughter and her Mother.

What Inspires Nancy? Pure and simple, "Music and Love."

Crossing The Cultural Divide

Judith Sloan performance artist, teacher and activist invited NYCSubwayGirl, hip-hop artist Abran "Aronic" Maldonado and Kathak dancer choreographer Parul Shah to peform at BAX Brooklyn Arts Exchange for a weekend of performance. A wonderful mash-up of artists who stretch the perameters of dance, hip-hop, spoken word, music and performance art.

NYCSubwayGirl created this clip of What Inspires the artists of Crossing The Cultural Divide

What Inspires Abran?

What Inspires Abran? "Gifted people making the most of their gifts."

He is also developing research, in collaboration with other academic scholars, on ways to improve education in underprivileged urban districts.

What Inspires Terry Halsey?

Terry filmed my songs Jungle and Comin' Back To Me while I was at Union SQ. We chatted about what he calls "Authentic Human Gesture," very compelling. "We're always unaware of how we might be impacting other people." His inspiration and a great NYC tip: "Tutuma Social Club" 56th St @ Lexington Ave where the afro-jazz Peruvian music is '"r-r-rockin."

Here's his clip of my song Jungle:

What's Your Inspiration? Animals

I created this clip for a concert to benefit Art For Animals in the same vein as my What's Your Inspiration? clips I make of the people I meet in the subway. I traveled around Columbia County and asked people "What Inspires you about animals?"

the film was a 2010 entry ath the Chatham FarmFilmFest

And a newer version with added end credits and additional footage of my pups

I love performing in public spaces

A day at St. George ferry terminal filmed by Nana

"What Inspires me is coming and performing to people like you, because I find that performing in public spaces is one of the most liberating experiences of performance.  Talk to any subway perfomer and they'll probably tell you the same thing, how wonderful it is to do what we do- we love it!"
